Lucerne - Interlaken – Zermatt
Spend your summer holidays in Switzerland. Explore a world of glaciers, passes and peaks on the incredible Swiss mountain rail network. This unique journey combines the most attractive regions of Switzerland with some of the most spectacular mountain railways of Europe, including the Jungfrau, Rothorn and Gornergrat cog trains. The journey takes you from Central Switzerland to the Bernese Oberland and the Valais. One of the best ways to spend a summer holiday in Switzerland.

Programme
Day 1: Arrival
Flight from the UK to Zürich. 2nd class rail transfer to Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 2: Mount Titlis Excursion
Today’s excursion take you to Mount Titlis for some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. First board the train to Engelberg from where the first of a set of three gondolas will slowly take you to a height of 10,000ft (3,048m). The last stage of your ascent is in the world’s first rotating gondola – ‘ TILTIS ROTAIR’. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 3: Brienzer Rothorn Excursion
A trip from Lucerne to Interlaken in the Bernese Oberland. First you take the Brünig railway to the wood carving village of Brienz. The Rothorn railway (steam trains from June to October) then takes you up to the Brienzer Rothorn at 7,710ft with its excellent superb views of Lake Brienz. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 4: Jungfraujoch Excursion
Take the Jungfrau Railway via ‘Eiger Gletscher’ to the Jungfraujoch - the highest railway station in Europe at 11,300ft (3,454m) with some breathtaking views of the Aletsch glacier, the longest in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 5: Schynige Platte Excursion
Take the train to Wilderswil, then the cog train up to Schynige Platte with its unique Alpine Garden and views of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 6: Interlaken to Zermatt
Travel from Interlaken via Spiez and Brig (change in both villages) to the famous car-free Alpine resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 7: Gornergrat Excursion
Take one of Europe’s highest cogwheel trains up to the Gornergrat and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 8: Departure
Rail transfer to Zürich or Geneva. Return flight to the UK.

You will be accommodated in centrally located 3* hotels, within easy walking distance to the railway station and amenities.

  • Lucerne: Des Alpes, Waldstaetterhof, Krone, Zum Weissen Kreuz , Drei Könige, NH Hotel, Magic Hotel (breakfast at Hotel Krone about 80m away), Alpina 
  • Interlaken: City Hotel Oberland, Splendid, Weisses Kreuz, Chalet Swiss, Bernerhof, Carlton – Europe Hotel, Beau Site, Bernerhof 
  • Zermatt: Sarazena, Bristol, Excelsior, Butterfly

  • £ 822  per adult sharing twin/double room
  • £ 183 - £ 364  per child under12 yrs, sharing a room with at least 2 full paying adults (child prices vary depending on age)

Flights, airport taxes, carbon offset contribution(see climate care), train transfers and excursions as per programme in 2nd class, Swiss Half Fare Card, accommodation in 3* hotels sharing twin/double room, breakfast.

Optional Extras:
  • Upgrade to 1st class: £ 77 per person
  • Upgrade to 4* accommodation: £ 122 per person for 7 nights (Single room on request)
  • Add extra nights at any of the resorts
