Lucerne - Interlaken – Zermatt
Spend your summer holidays in Switzerland. Explore a world of glaciers, passes and peaks on the incredible Swiss mountain rail network. This unique journey combines the most attractive regions of Switzerland with some of the most spectacular mountain railways of Europe, including the Jungfrau and Gornergrat.

The journey takes you from Central Switzerland to the Bernese Oberland and the Valais, staying in some of Switzerland's most popular resorts. One of the best ways to spend a summer holiday in Switzerland.

Programme

Day 1: Arrival in Lucerne
Flight or rail from the UK to Zürich. 2nd class rail transfer to Lucerne. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 2: Gondola ride Mount Titlis
Today’s excursion take you to Mount Titlis for some spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. First board the train to Engelberg from where the first of a set of three gondolas will slowly take you to a height of 10,000ft (3,048m). The last stage of your ascent is in the world’s first rotating gondola – ‘TILTIS ROTAIR’. Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 3: Lucerne to Interlaken 
A scenic trip on the Golden Pass route from Lucerne to Interlaken over the Brünig Pass. Afternoon at leisure in Interlaken. Alternatively stop in the woodcarving village of Brienz and take a boat cruise to Interlaken. Optional excursion (supplement payable):  Forward your luggage to Interlaken and board the train to Brienz. From here take the Rothorn railway that takes you up to the Brienzer Rothorn with his excellent hiking trails and superb views of Lake Brienz. On this journey several steam engines are in service every summer from June to October. In the afternoon you descend to Brienz and take a boat or train to Interlaken Ost. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 4: Excursion to the Jungfraujoch
Take the Jungfrau Railway via ‘Eiger Gletscher’ to the Jungfraujoch - the highest railway station in Europe at 11,300ft (3,454m) with some breathtaking views of the Aletsch glacier, the longest in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 5: Cogwheel train to Alpine Garden
Take the train to Wilderswil, then the cog train up to Schynige Platte with its unique Alpine Garden and views of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Overnight in Interlaken.
Day 6: Interlaken to Zermatt
Another spectacular train journey! From Interlaken you travel via Spiez and Brig (change in both villages) to the famous car-free Alpine resort of Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 7: Gornergrat Excursion
Take one of Europe’s highest cogwheel trains up to the Gornergrat and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 8: Departure
Rail transfer to Geneva or Swiss border and flight or rail back to the UK.

Optional Extras:
  • Upgrade to 4* accommodation: £138 per person for 7 nights (Single room £165)
  • Upgrade to 1st class: £55 per person
  • Add Lucerne guided city walk: £12 per person
